On the last weekend of August, Weiz has celebrated the Mulbratl Festival since 1995 under the motto Wine, Mulbratl and Song, centred on the smoked pork shoulder speciality of East Styria.
The Old Town Festival turns the centre of Weiz into a stage of music, food and conviviality and is, alongside the Mulbratl Festival, one of the town's most popular events.
Weiz is located in Eastern Styria at the foot of the Weizberg and is regarded as one of the region's most significant industrial centers. The town's history stretches back to the 12th century, with its first documented mention in 1188. An architectural gem is the Tabor Church, a former fortified church that provided refuge from invading troops during the Middle Ages. The modern expansion of Weiz is inextricably linked to the founding of the ELIN works in 1892, which established the town as a pioneering site for electrical engineering and energy supply. Today, Weiz is known as an 'Energy City' and hosts global corporations like Siemens Energy. The town balances its industrial prowess with cultural diversity and serves as a base for exploring the Eastern Styrian hills and the nearby Weizklamm gorge. As an educational and administrative hub, Weiz holds great importance for all of Eastern Styria.
