Bruck an der Mur is a historic trading town in Styria, located at the confluence of the Mur and Mürz rivers. Mentioned as early as 860 as 'ad Pruccam', the settlement flourished as a significant center for iron and salt trade due to its favorable transport links. The town's architectural masterpiece is the Kornmesserhaus, one of Austria's most important secular late Gothic buildings, constructed between 1495 and 1505. The city walls and the Landskron castle ruins on the Schlossberg testify to the town's defensive past. In the 19th century, Bruck transformed into a modern transport hub through railway construction and industrial development. Today, the town is an important administrative seat and serves as a gateway to the surrounding mountain regions, such as the Hochschwab. The harmonious blend of historical building fabric and modern infrastructure defines its contemporary townscape.
