Hartberg Castle Ruins (Austria)

Weather…

Hartberg Castle, often referred to as Hartberg Fortress, is located in Styria and forms the northwestern corner of the historic town fortifications. The origins of the complex date back to 1147, when Konrad von Graez initiated construction as a palatine castle. In the 16th century, under the Barons of Paumgarten, it was converted into a representative Renaissance castle, which impresses with its three-story arcaded courtyard in the north wing. A significant architectural feature is the Knight's Hall, decorated in the 17th century with Baroque stucco elements. Over the centuries, the castle was the seat of various noble families, including the Stubenbergs, and survived numerous military conflicts on the border with Hungary. Today, the castle is owned by the municipality of Hartberg and is used for cultural purposes as well as a venue for weddings and concerts.
