Zeltweg is a town in the Mur Valley of Styria, particularly known for its industrial significance and aviation history. The settlement was separated from the municipality of Fohnsdorf in 1871 to become independent, marking the start of its rapid development. The town is defined by the Hinterstoisser Air Base, the largest airfield of the Austrian Air Force, which opened in 1937. Located in the immediate vicinity is the Red Bull Ring, which achieved worldwide fame as the venue for international motorsport events such as Formula 1. Economically, Zeltweg is closely tied to the steel industry and mechanical engineering, with companies like voestalpine Schienen playing a central role. Its flat location in the Aichfeld makes the region an important transport hub and facilitated large-scale industrial settlement throughout the 20th century.
