Köflach is a town municipality in the district of Voitsberg in West Styria. The town is inseparably linked with the Piber Federal Stud, where the famous Lipizzaner stallions for the Spanish Riding School in Vienna are bred. Geographically, Köflach lies at the foot of the Stubalpe and looks back on a long tradition in coal mining and the glass industry, which shaped the townscape and social structure for decades. With the end of mining, the town successfully transformed into a center for health and tourism, highlighted by the opening of the modern Therme Nova in 2004. The town's architecture shows interesting contrasts between historic industrial buildings and modern leisure facilities.
