Pavlovsk Palace (Russia)

Weather…

Pavlovsk Palace, a harmonious masterpiece of European Neoclassicism, was built beginning in 1777 as a magnificent gift from Catherine the Great to her son and heir, the future Tsar Paul I, and his wife Maria Feodorovna. Designed by the celebrated Scottish architect Charles Cameron, the palace impresses with its elegant white facade and golden-yellow dome, evoking the architecture of ancient Rome. The interiors were heavily influenced by the refined taste of Maria Feodorovna, who decorated them with antiquities, sculptures, and paintings that the couple acquired on an extensive European trip, known as the "Grand Tour". However, the true highlight of Pavlovsk is the expansive 600-hectare English landscape park. With its meandering rivers, antique-style pavilions, marble statues, and scenic valleys, it is considered one of the largest and most beautiful landscape gardens in Europe, providing a romantic counterpoint to the severity of other imperial residences.
