Murom (Russia)

Weather…

Murom, one of the oldest cities in Russia, is beautifully situated on the high banks of the Oka River. It is deeply rooted in Russian folklore as the birthplace of Ilya Muromets, the most celebrated of the 'bogatyrs' (epic knights). A massive monument dedicated to him stands in a park overlooking the river. The city exudes a spiritual charm, being home to several ancient monasteries, including the Savior-Transfiguration Monastery, which dates back to the 11th century. Murom is also a center for the veneration of Saints Peter and Fevronia, the Russian patrons of love and marriage. Their shrine in the Holy Trinity Monastery attracts many pilgrims seeking blessings for their families. Besides its religious heritage, the city features scenic river views and the award-winning Murom Bridge, often cited as the most beautiful bridge in Russia. The best time to visit is during the summer, particularly in July for the Day of Family, Love, and Fidelity. Murom can be reached by train or car from Moscow or Vladimir. Be sure to try the 'Muromsky Kalach', a traditional ring-shaped bread so iconic it is featured on the city's coat of arms.
