Bryansk, majestically situated on the banks of the Desna River, is a city deep in western Russia that looks back on a long and proud history as a border fortress. Founded in 985, the city is inextricably linked to the dense, legendary forests of the region that surround it. These Bryansk forests formed an almost impenetrable fortress of nature during World War II and became the epicenter of the Soviet partisan movement, which is why Bryansk proudly bears the title „City of Partisan Glory“ today. In the post-war period, the city transformed into an industrial heavyweight, particularly in mechanical and locomotive engineering. Today, Bryansk combines its heroic heritage and historical monasteries, such as the magnificent Svensky Monastery, with the animated life of a modern economic center.
