Catherine Palace (Russia)

Weather…

The Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin) is the epitome of Russian imperial extravagance. This magnificent Rococo palace was designed in the mid-18th century by the Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli for Empress Elizabeth, who named it after her mother, Catherine I. Its striking blue, white, and gold facade, stretching for over 300 meters, amazes every visitor. The palace interiors showcase unprecedented opulence, most notably the world-famous Amber Room, which is lined with intricate amber panels, gold leaf, and mirrors. During World War II, the palace was occupied by German troops and almost completely destroyed; the original Amber Room was looted and remains lost to this day. Since 1957, Russian craftsmen have worked tirelessly on the meticulous restoration of the palace, including the faithful reconstruction of the Amber Room, which was festively completed in 2003.
