Feodorovsky Cathedral (Russia)

Weather…

The Feodorovsky Cathedral in Tsarskoye Selo (now Pushkin) is a magnificent example of the Neo-Russian architectural style, deeply connected to the final years of the Romanov dynasty. Built between 1909 and 1912 following the designs of architect Stepan Krichinsky, it served as the official church for the Imperial Guard and the private place of worship for the royal family. The design intentionally references 17th-century Russian architecture from Rostov and Yaroslavl, featuring massive white stone walls and imposing gilded domes. The cathedral is divided into two parts: the spacious Upper Church and the intimate, crypt-like Lower Church dedicated to St. Seraphim of Sarov, where Tsar Nicholas II and his family frequently prayed. During the Soviet period, the building was secularized, used as a warehouse, and heavily damaged during World War II. Following extensive restoration efforts that began in the 1990s, the cathedral has been returned to its former beauty. Today, it stands as a vital spiritual center and a poignant monument to the history of the last Russian imperial family and their devotion to traditional Russian heritage.
