Grmija Forest is an expansive landscape park located on the eastern outskirts of Pristina, serving as the primary recreational hub for the region. The protected area covers approximately 1,120 hectares and is characterized by dense deciduous forests, where oak and beech species are dominant. The park's highest point is the Butovac peak, reaching an elevation of 1,100 meters and offering panoramic views over the Kosovo plain. Botanically, the area is significant, with over 600 recorded plant species, showcasing high biodiversity at the meeting point of various climatic influences. In the lower section of the park, a large open-air swimming pool was constructed in the 1980s, becoming a central gathering spot during the summer months. Numerous hiking trails and cycling paths crisscross the terrain, with strict measures in place to preserve the natural habitats of wildlife such as foxes and various birds of prey. Grmija is legally protected as a regional park and plays a vital role in maintaining the air quality and microclimate of the nearby urban center.
