Vladičin Han is located in southeastern Serbia in the Pčinja District, on the banks of the South Morava River at a strategically important point of Pan-European Corridor X. The city's name is derived from an inn (Han) that belonged to a bishop (Vladika) in the 19th century, providing shelter for travelers heading toward Thessaloniki. The settlement grew rapidly following the construction of the railway line in 1886 and attained city status in 1921. During the 1999 NATO bombings, the infrastructure, particularly the bridges over the Morava, suffered severe damage, which was subsequently rebuilt in the following years. Economically, the town was long dependent on wood processing and agriculture, especially fruit growing, but is now increasingly focusing on modern logistics and industry. The surrounding area is characterized by a hilly topography forming the transition to the Vlasina Highlands. Vladičin Han today serves as a vital junction for transit traffic between Central Europe and Greece.
