Prijepolje is located in southwestern Serbia in the Zlatibor District, tucked away in the mountainous landscape of the Sandžak region at the confluence of the Mileševka and Lim rivers. The city was first mentioned in documents in 1343 and developed into an important economic center due to its position on the trade route between Dubrovnik and the Balkan interior. Just a few kilometers from the city center lies the Mileševa Monastery, founded in the 13th century, which houses the famous "White Angel" fresco, a masterpiece of Serbian-Byzantine art. The city's architecture is characterized by a mix of Ottoman influences, such as the 18th-century Sahat-Kula (clock tower), and modern buildings. Situated at an altitude of about 450 meters above sea level, the climate features temperate summers and snowy winters. Today, Prijepolje serves as an administrative and cultural hub for the surrounding region, with tourism centered around the Lim River and the monastery growing in significance.
