The Raška River flows through southwestern Serbia and is one of the most significant left tributaries of the Ibar, which it joins near the town of Raška. The river originates at the base of the Pešter plateau and Golija mountain from a spectacular karst spring located beneath the medieval fortress of Ras. Approximately 60 kilometers long, its drainage basin is the historical heart of Serbia, the former core land of the medieval state of Raška. The city of Novi Pazar lies in the river's valley, where the Raška's water is utilized for both industrial and municipal purposes.
