Rogozna Mountain

The Rogozna Mountain is a volcanic massif in southwestern Serbia, strategically stretching between the cities of Novi Pazar and Kosovska Mitrovica. Its highest peak is Crni Vrh at 1479 meters. Geologically, Rogozna is highly interesting as it consists of Tertiary volcanic rocks, which led to active mining in the Middle Ages. Numerous ruins of medieval fortresses, such as the Jeleč castle, bear witness to the mountain's historical importance as a guardian over the trade routes of the Raška region. The landscape is characterized by a mix of forested valleys and barren, rocky peaks that offer wide views over the Sandžak area. The mountain is also rich in mineral springs, though they remain largely undeveloped for tourism. Its seclusion has helped preserve traditional ways of life in the mountain villages. For hikers, Rogozna provides challenging routes through a historically rich and wild natural landscape.
