Jajce Fortress and Waterfall (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

Jajce is a remarkable historic town in central Bosnia, renowned for the spectacular meeting of history and nature at its core. At the heart of the town, the Pliva River plunges over a 22-meter-high waterfall into the Vrbas River, making Jajce one of the few towns in the world with a waterfall in its center. Historically, Jajce served as the capital of the medieval Kingdom of Bosnia and was the site of the execution of the last Bosnian king, Stjepan Tomašević, in 1463. The imposing fortress overlooking the town has wide-open views and stands as a testament to its strategic military importance over the centuries. Below the citadel lie mysterious catacombs and an underground church dating back to the late 14th century. In 1943, Jajce became a pivotal site in modern history when it hosted the second session of AVNOJ, where the foundations of the post-WWII Yugoslav state were laid.
