Travnik Fortress (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

Travnik, often referred to as the City of Viziers, is located in central Bosnia and served as the residence of Ottoman governors between 1699 and 1850. The town is dominated by a well-preserved 15th-century medieval fortress, originally built during the reign of King Tvrtko II to secure the Lašva Valley. Travnik is unique in Bosnia for having two Ottoman clock towers and is home to the beautifully decorated Painted Mosque (Šarena Džamija). A natural highlight is the Plava Voda (Blue Water) spring, a powerful karst source surrounded by traditional restaurants and greenery. The town is also the birthplace of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić, and his birth house has been preserved as a prominent museum. Positioned between the slopes of Mount Vlašić and the Lašva River, Travnik has a rich blend of cultural heritage and alpine scenery, making it a key destination for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers.
