Novi Travnik is a relatively young and emerging city in the heart of central Bosnia, deeply shaped by the profound industrial legacy of Yugoslavia. It was officially founded in 1949 and systematically planned and built to accommodate the rapidly growing workforce of the nearby Bratstvo metalworking combine. For decades, this massive industrial enterprise formed the undisputed economic epicenter of the entire region. Beyond its rich industrial history, Novi Travnik today also has a beautiful natural landscape, characterized by dense, untouched forests and pretty rolling hills that are first-rate for extensive hiking and nature exploration. Another major cultural and historical highlight of the immediate surrounding area is the medieval stećci necropolises located in nearby Maculje, which provide a fascinating and highly valuable insight into ancient Bosnian funerary culture.
