💡 Tips
- Breathe deep: Kneževo is known as an 'aerial spa' due to its exceptionally clean mountain air and high oxygen concentration.
- Visit the 'Kanjon' restaurant on the road to Banja Luka for a spectacular view of the Ugar river canyon and excellent roasted lamb.
- Buy the famous Vlašić cheese (Vlašićki sir) directly from local households in the mountain villages for the most authentic taste.
- Find the 'Veliki Buk' waterfall on the Ilomska river; it is a hidden natural gem, often empty and first-rate for a quiet picnic.
- Use the town as a winter base if you want to enjoy the snow without the heavy crowds found in nearby Babanovac.

Kneževo (formerly and widely known as Skender Vakuf) is a highly characterful but rather isolated small mountain town hidden deep within the dense forests of the Vlašić mountain massif. Due to its considerable altitude, the entire region is heavily characterized by an extremely harsh, cold mountain climate, which brings massive amounts of snow during the winter. The vast, untouched nature and the extensive, dense coniferous forests make Kneževo a true epicenter for demanding forestry and the wood-processing industry, which traditionally form the absolute economic lifeblood of the town. Beyond logging, the region provides excellent, though often undiscovered, potential for challenging alpine hiking tourism and exciting winter sports. Furthermore, the deeply carved river valleys of the Ugar and Ilomska rivers offer dramatic gorges and waterfalls that increasingly captivate and attract passionate nature lovers.
