Vlašić is a massive mountain range in the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina, majestically overlooking the historical town of Travnik. Its highest peak, Paljenik, reaches an elevation of 1,933 meters and is easily identified by its prominent television tower. The Vlašić plateau is famous for its extensive alpine pastures, which for centuries have been the foundation for producing the renowned Vlašić cheese, a traditional sheep milk specialty. Geologically, the mountain belongs to the Dinaric Alps and consists mainly of limestone, leading to the formation of numerous caves and springs. During the winter season, the Babanovac hill transforms into a significant ski center, one of the first in the region to feature a ski jump. The climate is shaped by the influence of continental and Mediterranean air masses, resulting in high biodiversity. Hikers enjoy the countless trails passing through dense coniferous forests and blooming mountain meadows. Culturally, Vlašić is closely tied to nomadic pastoralism, still practiced today by local shepherds, giving the region its unique character.
