Drosendorf Castle (Austria)

Weather…

Drosendorf Castle sits impressively on a high rocky ridge overlooking the Thaya river and is an integral part of the Drosendorf town fortifications. The site originates from a medieval castle built in the 12th century to secure the border with Moravia. Over the centuries, the castle endured numerous sieges but was often successfully defended due to its exposed location. Starting in the 17th century, the former fortress was converted into a comfortable noble residence under the Counts of Lamberg, adding Baroque facades and interior designs. Particularly noteworthy is the castle's integration into Drosendorf's completely preserved town wall. In the 19th century, the castle came into the possession of the Order of Malta, which used it for educational and social purposes. Today, the building serves as a seminar center and guesthouse, with its historic fabric, including the keep and Gothic chapel, meticulously maintained.
