In spring, this regional delicacy dominates the menus of traditional inns along the main road.
Crispy breaded chicken, a staple available at most local Gasthäuser near the train station.

Strasshof an der Nordbahn is located in the Gänserndorf district of Lower Austria. The development of the town is inextricably linked to the construction of the Kaiser Ferdinand North Railway in the 19th century. Geographically, the town extends across the vast plains of the Marchfeld, northeast of Vienna. The defining feature of the town is its spacious structure with many detached houses and gardens, which earned it the nickname Garden City. Historically, Strasshof gained sad notoriety during the Second World War as the site of a transit camp. Today, the town is best known as the home of the Das Heizhaus railway museum, which houses one of the most important collections of historic steam locomotives in Europe. Economically, Strasshof is a classic residential community for commuters to Vienna, but also has local retail businesses along the B8 road. The demographic structure is characterized by a high proportion of newcomers, which has necessitated a modern infrastructure with new schools and kindergartens. The architecture is predominantly functional and shaped by the settlement history of the 20th century, with the old locomotive depot representing an important technical monument.
