Krems an der Donau is one of Austria's oldest cities and serves as the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage region of Wachau. The city has over a thousand years of history, deeply rooted in Danube river trade and viticulture. The architectural landscape of Krems and the adjacent district of Stein is characterized by medieval alleys, grand Renaissance townhouses, and striking religious structures like the Piarist Church. The Steiner Tor, the city's only surviving medieval gate, is its most iconic landmark. The winter morning starts crisp at the Town Hall market, with the scent of hot tea in the air. At midday, we warm up inside the magnificent parish church while admiring Baroque art. As the sun sets early, we enjoy the atmospheric lighting of Steiner Landstraße by late afternoon. We conclude the day with a glass of Wachau apricot brandy in a heated wine tavern.
