Vranov nad Dyjí Chateau (Czech Republic)

Weather…

Vranov nad Dyjí Chateau perches on a steep cliff overlooking the Thaya River in Southern Moravia. Originally established as a Moravian border fortress in the 11th century, it was transformed into a magnificent Baroque residence by the Althann family following the Thirty Years' War. The renowned architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach designed the most striking parts of the complex, including the monumental Hall of the Ancestors. This oval hall is adorned with frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr and houses statues of the Althann family's progenitors. Another architectural gem is the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, dating from the late 17th century. The interiors showcase the lifestyle of the aristocracy during the 18th and 19th centuries, featuring a notable collection of Vranov earthenware. Located within the Podyjí National Park, the chateau gives spectacular views of the surrounding pristine forest landscape.
