Tulln an der Donau is one of the oldest towns in Austria and is often referred to as the "City of Flowers" due to its numerous gardens and parks. Its settlement history dates back to Roman times when the location served as an important cavalry fort named Comagena on the Danube Limes. Today, an equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius commemorates this ancient era. During the Middle Ages, Tulln was a significant trading center and temporarily the residence of the Babenberg dynasty before Vienna took over this role. The town is also famous as the birthplace of the renowned expressionist painter Egon Schiele, with a dedicated museum in the former district prison. Every year, the "Garten Tulln," an ecological garden show with over 70 display gardens, attracts thousands of visitors and highlights the town's environmental focus. Geographically situated in the Tullnerfeld plain, it serves as a vital administrative and educational hub for the surrounding region.
