Kopaonik National Park (Serbia)

Weather…

Kopaonik National Park was established in 1981 to protect the highest portions of the Kopaonik mountain range in central Serbia. Spanning nearly 12,000 hectares, it is one of the country's most significant ecological and tourist areas. The highest peak, Pančić's Peak, reaches 2,017 meters and is named after the renowned botanist Josif Pančić, who is buried at the summit. Known as the "Mountain of the Sun," the range enjoys over 200 sunny days per year. The park is characterized by its high degree of biodiversity and endemism, hosting unique plant species such as the Kopaonik houseleek and Kopaonik violet. Historically, the area was a center for mining, as reflected in its name (derived from the verb "kopati," meaning to dig). Today, it functions as Serbia's premier winter sports destination while maintaining strict environmental protections for its alpine ecosystems.
