Nova Pavlica Monastery (Serbia)

Weather…

The Nova Pavlica Monastery is located near Raška on the banks of the Ibar River and was built between 1381 and 1389. The founders of the complex were the Musić brothers, Stefan and Lazar, who were nephews of Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović and perished in the Battle of Kosovo. The architecture of the monastery church follows the Morava school style, featuring a Greek cross plan with a single central dome. The facade is constructed from alternating layers of stone and brick, a characteristic technique of late medieval Serbian building traditions. Inside, significant frescoes have been preserved, including donor portraits that depict the Musić family in formal aristocratic attire. For centuries, the monastery served as a spiritual hub for the surrounding region, enduring the Ottoman era despite repeated damage and neglect. Today, it stands as a protected cultural monument, attracting historians and pilgrims interested in the profound legacy of the Serbian Middle Ages.
