Dunaujvaros Steel Works (Hungary)

Weather…

The steel works in Dunaújváros, formerly known as the Danube Iron Works, was the largest industrial prestige project of the socialist era in Hungary. The foundation stone was laid in 1950, concurrently with the construction of the new city, which was originally named Sztálinváros. The plant was designed to make the Hungarian heavy industry self-sufficient through the production of crude steel and rolled products. Despite the economic transformations following 1989, the complex, later known as ISD Dunaferr, has remained a central pillar of the regional economy. The industrial facilities cover a vast area on the banks of the Danube, which facilitates the logistics for raw materials such as iron ore and coal. Today, the works are undergoing modernization under new management to meet current environmental and efficiency standards in the steel industry.
