Gorsium Archaeological Park (Hungary)

Weather…

The Gorsium Archaeological Park in Tác is one of Hungary's largest and most significant ancient Roman sites. Originally established as a military camp in the 1st century AD, it evolved into a flourishing city known as Gorsium-Herculia. It served as the religious center for the province of Pannonia Inferior and was the seat of the imperial cult. Extensive excavations have revealed the foundations of temples, a forum, a theater, and luxurious villas featuring mosaic floors. Notable features include the reconstructed city walls, gates, and an impressive lapidarium containing a vast collection of stone monuments and inscriptions. Every spring, the park hosts the 'Floralia' festival, where ancient life is brought back to life through gladiator bouts and theatrical performances. Gorsium provides a fascinating glimpse into Roman urban planning and daily life at the edge of the empire.
