Bory Castle (Hungary)

Weather…

Bory Castle in Székesfehérvár is an extraordinary architectural work of art, built almost single-handedly by Jenő Bory. The architect and sculptor worked on this monument to conjugal love for 36 years, from 1923 until his death in 1959. The castle is stylistically eclectic, blending Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance elements into a highly imaginative composition. Notable is the early and innovative use of quartz concrete for sculptures, columns, and decorations, which was a technical novelty at the time. The building complex houses hundreds of sculptures and paintings created by the artist and his wife, Ilona Komocsin. Today, the castle is open to the public as a private museum and is considered one of Hungary's most unique and romantic landmarks.
