János V., the former director of the Bicske children's home convicted of pedophilia, has been released after serving his sentence. His release in April sparked renewed significant coverage in the Hungarian media and public.
Sixty-five families in Bicske received financial support of two million forints each for the modernization of their homes. The program aims to improve the quality of local housing and modernize living conditions in the town.
Bicske is a town in Fejér County, situated approximately 35 kilometers west of Budapest along the main transport corridor connecting the Hungarian capital with Vienna. The town's history is deeply intertwined with the noble Batthyány family, who established their regional seat here in the 18th century. Its most significant landmark is the neoclassical Batthyány Castle, built between 1754 and 1755 and later redesigned by the famous architect Mihály Pollack. Another unique historical feature is the 'Hajnalóvár,' a former astronomical observatory founded by Count Károly Batthyány, which is considered one of the earliest such facilities in Hungary. Today, Bicske is a vital logistics and industrial hub due to its excellent rail and road connections. The town also preserves a rich religious heritage, including its Catholic church with notable frescoes, while the surrounding Bicske Basin gives diverse natural landscapes for hikers.
