Alcsut Arboretum (Hungary)

Weather…

The Alcsút Arboretum is one of Hungary's most significant and beautiful landscape gardens, located in the heart of Fejér County in the former estate center of the Habsburgs. It was founded in 1820 by Archduke Joseph, the Palatine of Hungary, who created this botanical masterpiece together with the famous garden designer of the era, Károly Tost. The central attraction of the garden is the monumental portico of the former Neoclassical castle, which proudly proclaims past glory even after a 1944 fire. The arboretum spans over 40 hectares and is home to more than 540 species of trees and shrubs, including century-old swamp cypresses and Lebanon cedars. Special attractions include the early spring snowdrop festival and the summer firefly swarming, providing a magical evening sight.
