Veres Hill (Hungary)

Weather…

Rising on the southern slopes of the Vértes Mountains near Csákvár, Veres Hill is one of the most exciting geological and botanical points of the range. The mountain's name refers to the dolomite rocks reddening in the sunset and the smoketree (Cotinus coggygria) that turns vivid colors in autumn, a characteristic plant of the region. The area showcases the 'sub-Mediterranean' face of the Vértes, where barren dolomite rock grasslands and karst brush forests provide unique habitats for rare orchid species and reptiles. Panoramic views open from the summit and surrounding peaks over the Zámolyi Basin and the distant ranges of the Velence Hills. The Haraszt Hill nature trail at the foot of the mountain interactively presents the area's formation and geological secrets.

⛰️
Terrain & paths
The terrain features typical low-mountain forested trails with some moderate elevation gains. Paths can be uneven with roots and stones, but they are generally manageable for casual walkers.
