Solt is a town in Bács-Kiskun County, Hungary, situated on the left bank of the Danube River, covering a vast administrative area of 132.67 square kilometers. Historically, the area has been inhabited since the Stone Age, and it later became an important medieval crossing point on the Danube. A defining feature of modern Solt is the enormous Kossuth Radio transmitter mast, erected in 1977. Standing at a staggering 298 meters, it is the tallest structure in Hungary and broadcasts on a medium-wave frequency of 540 kHz, reaching vast areas of Central Europe. The town's economy is historically rooted in agriculture, particularly viticulture and the cultivation of peppers and grain. The Teleki Castle, built in the early 19th century, represents the local architectural heritage and reflects the historical dominance of Hungarian noble families in this agricultural region. Solt officially received its town status in 1997, solidifying its role as a regional center in the Pannonian plain.
