Ráckeve is a characterful small town on the southern part of Csepel Island, situated along the Soroksár branch of the Danube. The town's history is closely intertwined with Serbian settlers who arrived here in 1440, fleeing from the Ottomans. Its most significant monument is the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Assumption, the only Gothic-style Orthodox church in Hungary, featuring impressive Byzantine-style frescoes inside. Another architectural jewel is the Savoyai Mansion, the first secular Baroque castle in the country, designed by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt for Prince Eugene of Savoy in the early 18th century. Ráckeve is famous for its "boat market" held twice a week directly on the Danube bank. Today, the town is a favorite hub for anglers, water sports enthusiasts, and those seeking peaceful riverside relaxation.
