Velence Mountains (Hungary)

Weather…

The Velence Mountains are a geologically unique range located on the northern shore of Lake Velence in Fejér County. Composed primarily of granite formed approximately 300 million years ago during the Carboniferous period, they are the oldest mountains in Hungary. The highest peak is Meleg-hegy, reaching 352 meters above sea level. The range is famous for its 'rocking stones' (Ingó-kövek), massive granite blocks shaped by erosion that appear to balance precariously on top of each other. Notable formations include Pandúr-kő and Olasz-bak. The vegetation is characterized by drought-resistant oak forests and rare rock grassland species. In addition to its natural wonders, the area features historic villages like Sukoró and historical sites like the Military Memorial Park in Pákozd. Due to its proximity to Budapest, the Velence Mountains are a major destination for hikers, climbers, and nature enthusiasts.
