Kiskunlacháza is a town in Pest County, located on the left bank of the Ráckeve branch of the Danube, opposite Csepel Island. The settlement reached its current form in 1950 through the merger of two historic villages, Lacháza and Pereg. While Pereg has medieval roots dating back to the 14th century, Lacháza was a significant administrative center for the Cumanian districts in the 18th century, maintaining strong cultural ties to the Kiskun (Little Cumanian) identity. The town's architectural centerpiece is its late Baroque Reformed church, built in the 1770s, which reflects the dominant Protestant heritage of the local population. During the second half of the 20th century, Kiskunlacháza gained prominence as a major strategic location for the Soviet Air Force, hosting one of Hungary's largest military airbases until the early 1990s. Since the withdrawal of Soviet troops, the extensive airfield has been repurposed for civilian use, becoming a popular venue for motorsports, drag racing competitions, and large-scale aviation days. This unique blend of Cumanian traditions, historical military significance, and modern recreational utility makes Kiskunlacháza a notable destination within the Budapest metropolitan area, bridging the gap between historical heritage and contemporary technical sports culture.
