Petrovsky Passage (Russia)

Weather…

The Petrovsky Passage is a historic department store in central Moscow, built between 1903 and 1906 based on designs by architects Adolf Erichson and Vladimir Shukhov. The building is considered a masterpiece of Art Nouveau and engineering, particularly because of its characteristic glass roof. Shukhov's innovative steel-and-glass construction allowed for natural lighting of the three-story shopping arcades. Originally, the project was financed by the Firsanov merchant family and was known as the Firsanovsky Passage. After the Russian Revolution, the building was nationalized and served various purposes for a time before undergoing comprehensive restoration in the 1990s. Today, it houses luxury boutiques of international brands and is an important architectural monument of Russian Modernism.
