Ostankino Tower (Russia)

Weather…

The Ostankino Tower in Moscow is a masterpiece of Soviet engineering and prominently dominates the skyline of the Russian capital. Following its completion in 1967, it held the record as the tallest freestanding structure in the world for an entire decade. With an imposing height of 540 meters, it serves as the central television and radio broadcasting tower for the greater Moscow area. Designed by engineer Nikolai Nikitin, the tower's shape is said to resemble an inverted lily with a sturdy stem extending into the sky. Visitors can enjoy a sweeping panoramic view of the city from the observation deck located at 337 meters, where sections of the floor are made of thick glass, providing a spectacular, vertiginous view straight down. Despite suffering a severe fire in 2000, the tower was successfully restored and remains a vital landmark of modern Russian architecture.

Typical hours
The observation decks are usually open during the day and late into the evening to allow views of the illuminated city. It is highly recommended to check the exact admission times and session availability on the official website beforehand.

Photography
Photography on the observation decks is generally permitted for private purposes, though reflections from the glass panels can pose challenges. Professional equipment or tripods often need to be declared to security personnel in advance.
⏱️
Time needed
At least two to three hours should be allocated for the entire visit, including the mandatory security checks and the elevator ride. During peak times, waiting times in the entrance area can be significantly extended, so plan accordingly.
