Mbuluzi River (Eswatini)

Weather…

The Mbuluzi River is one of the most significant river systems in northeastern Eswatini, consisting of two main branches: the Black Mbuluzi and the White Mbuluzi. Originating in the Highveld west of Mbabane, it flows eastward through the Lowveld, traversing important conservation areas such as Hlane Royal National Park and Mlawula Nature Reserve. The river is an essential lifeline for agriculture, as its water is used extensively for irrigating surrounding sugarcane and citrus estates. The construction of the Mnjoli Dam on the Black Mbuluzi has greatly improved water regulation, enabling stable supplies for large-scale agricultural operations. Ecologically, the Mbuluzi basin provides a valuable habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, including crocodiles, hippopotamuses, and rare bird species like the African Pied Kingfisher. The river eventually flows into the Indian Ocean in Mozambique, after joining other waterways to form the Rio Umbeluzi.
