Hlane Forest (Eswatini)

Weather…

Hlane Royal National Park is Eswatini's largest protected area and was historically the private hunting ground of the Swazi monarch. The name 'Hlane' translates to 'wilderness' in siSwati, aptly describing the pristine nature of this vast Lowveld territory. Covering approximately 22,000 hectares, the park is dominated by flat savannas and dense hardwood forests, notably large stands of the ancient knobthorn acacia tree. It is famous for its populations of white rhinos, elephants, and lions, all maintained under strict royal protection. Particularly noteworthy is the high density of vultures and eagles, making Hlane one of the premier birdwatching destinations in the region. Unlike many other parks, Hlane remains intentionally simple and rustic to preserve an authentic African bush experience. The trail network leads visitors to various waterholes where spectacular wildlife encounters are frequent during the dry season. The park remains a cornerstone of national identity and the preservation of Swazi cultural heritage.
