The best time to visit Mbuluzi Game Reserve is the dry season from May to October, when animals gather along the Mbuluzi River. The sparser vegetation during these months makes it easier to spot giraffes and the reserve’s abundant birdlife.
Best time of day
Early morning shortly after sunrise and late dusk just before sunset offer the highest wildlife activity in Mbuluzi. During these cooler hours, animals leave shaded spots and head to waterholes, making even shy species more visible.
Etiquette
Always remain inside your vehicle and keep a safe distance of at least 20 meters from any wildlife. Feeding animals is strictly prohibited, as it disrupts their natural behavior and can cause danger to both humans and animals.
What to bring
A quality binocular with at least 8x magnification is essential for observing animals from a safe distance. Sturdy closed-toe shoes, light-coloured clothing for the early hours, plus sun protection and plenty of water are strongly recommended.
Getting there
Mbuluzi Game Reserve is located in eastern Eswatini and is best reached with a 4x4 vehicle from the MR3 highway. The access road is a gravel track that can become tricky during the rainy season - check road conditions beforehand.
What to expect
Wildlife viewing demands patience and a quiet demeanor - set aside at least two to three hours at a good vantage point. Although giraffes and birds are common, every sighting is a special moment that requires time and stillness.
