Nsoko lies in the southern Lubombo District between the fertile Lowveld plains and the foothills of the Lubombo Plateau. The region has been the traditional center of Eswatini's cotton farming for decades, which until the 1990s was an important source of foreign exchange for the country. Although cotton has declined in favor of sugar cane, Nsoko remains important in the agricultural sector, especially through the Big Bend Citrus project and several smallholder cooperatives. The climate is hot and dry, with summer rains often arriving as heavy thunderstorms. Economically Nsoko also benefits from its proximity to the Lavumisa border and the MR8 highway, which links Manzini with South Africa. The region is also home to Nsoko Wildlife Reserve, an 18,000-hectare private conservancy that protects rhinos, elephants and antelope and runs important programs for endangered species. The town itself is small, with a clinic, several schools and a traditional market, but its cultural diversity, including religious ceremonies and harvest festivals, makes Nsoko an authentic place where traditional and modern ways of life meet.
