Nevesinje is a historic town and municipality located in Eastern Herzegovina, within the Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Situated on the expansive Nevesinjsko Polje at an elevation of roughly 900 meters, the town is cradled by the Velež and Crvanj mountains. Nevesinje is most famous in history for the 'Nevesinjska puška' (The Nevesinje Gun), an 1875 uprising against Ottoman rule that eventually led to the Congress of Berlin and the Austro-Hungarian administration of Bosnia. The climate is distinctly alpine, characterized by long, cold winters and short summers, which has historically made the region a center for livestock breeding and agriculture. Numerous stećci necropolises are scattered throughout the area, bearing witness to its medieval significance. Today, Nevesinje remains a peaceful locality, known for its pristine natural environment and traditional Herzegovinian hospitality.
