Lukavica is a key urban neighborhood within the city of Istočno Sarajevo (East Sarajevo) in the Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Following the 1995 Dayton Agreement, Lukavica evolved into the administrative, economic, and cultural hub of the newly formed East Sarajevo. The settlement is home to numerous vital institutions, including the seat of the East Sarajevo city government and several faculties of the University of East Sarajevo. Its architecture is largely contemporary, reflecting the massive population growth and intensive construction projects that have characterized the area over the last two decades. Geographically, Lukavica sits directly on the inter-entity boundary line, bordering the Sarajevo neighborhood of Dobrinja. This unique location makes it a central commercial node and a transit point for daily commuters. Despite its rapid urban expansion, the nearby Olympic mountains of Jahorina and Trebević provide extensive recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
