Crvanj (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

The Crvanj mountain range is located in the eastern part of Herzegovina, north of the town of Nevesinje. Its highest peak is Zimomor, standing at 1,920 meters, which strikingly towers over the surrounding highland. The mountain is characterized by a vast, undulating plateau that drops steeply to the east towards the upper course of the Neretva River. Geologically, the massif consists of limestone and displays extreme karst features, including massive sinkholes and deep crevices that make off-trail hiking difficult. Historically, the region was an important site for traditional livestock farming, with shepherds driving their herds to the cool high pastures in summer. The vegetation on the plateau is rather sparse, consisting of alpine grasses, while the lower valleys are lined with beech forests. The climate is harsh with strong winds and long-lasting snowfall in winter, which often makes Crvanj impassable. For adventurers, the mountain provides an untouched wilderness far from tourist paths, with spectacular views of the peaks of Prenj and Velež. Several important tributaries of the Neretva originate nearby, supplying the region with water.
