Bileća is a tradition-rich city located in the southeastern part of Republika Srpska in Herzegovina, strongly defined by the surrounding arid and rugged karstic landscape. The scenery and the very life of the community were fundamentally transformed by the creation of the massive, artificial Bileća Lake (Bilećko jezero), which today not only serves for vital energy generation but has also rapidly developed into a highly popular destination for anglers, divers, and water sports enthusiasts. Hidden beneath the deep surface of the lake lie sunken traditional villages and historical monasteries. The region surrounding Bileća is also renowned nationwide for its exceptionally high density of impressive medieval tombstones (stećci), deeply testifying to the area's profound historical significance. Economically, alongside energy production, the textile industry dominates, while the harsh Herzegovinian climate creates well-suited conditions for resilient agriculture and robust livestock breeding.
