Konjic is picturesquely situated on the banks of the emerald green Neretva River, strategically located roughly halfway between the capital city of Sarajevo and the Mediterranean-influenced city of Mostar. One of the town's most famous landmarks is the beautifully reconstructed 17th-century Ottoman stone bridge, which seamlessly connects the historical center with the modern urban area. A historically unique site in Konjic is the formerly top-secret bunker of Josip Broz Tito, known as Object D-0, which was built deep into the mountains and today serves as a fascinating museum for contemporary art. Furthermore, the region is widely renowned for its centuries-old and masterful woodcarving tradition, whose highly artistic creations have even been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
