Daorson (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

The ancient city of Daorson, situated on the Ošanići plateau near Stolac, was once the thriving center of the Hellenized Illyrian tribe of the Daorsi. This archaeological site, with origins dating back to the 3rd century BC, is often compared to Mycenae due to its impressive cyclopean walls made of massive stone blocks fitted together with incredible precision. The 65-meter-long main wall serves as a testament to the highly developed architecture and military significance of the city. The Daorsi minted their own coins, used the Greek alphabet, and maintained extensive trade relations. However, in 43 BC, Daorson was attacked and almost completely destroyed by the hostile Dalmatae tribes. Today, visitors can wander through the ruins, identify the ground plans of the old buildings, and enjoy a fantastic view of the surrounding Herzegovina landscape.
