Karadjoz Bey Mosque (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

The Karadjoz Bey Mosque in Mostar is the largest and most magnificent Ottoman religious structure in the Herzegovina region. Built in 1557, it was designed by the famous imperial architect Mimar Sinan (or one of his closest students) for the benefactor Mehmed-Bey Karadjoz. The mosque is notable for its monumental dome with a diameter of 12.50 meters and its slender minaret, which stands 34.50 meters tall. Constructed using the characteristic local Tenelija stone, the building adheres to the classic principles of Ottoman architecture. During the Bosnian War, the mosque was nearly leveled, and its minaret collapsed due to heavy shelling. Between 2002 and 2004, it was meticulously restored to its original state with international assistance, including support from UNESCO. Today, it is a designated National Monument and remains one of Mostar's most visited architectural landmarks.
